Under this scheme financial assistance of Rs.5000 is given to pregnant women and lactating women. Rs.5000 is given in three different installments. Under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, five thousand rupees is given to the pregnant woman's account for nutrition on getting pregnant for the first time. The first installment of Rs.1000 is given within 150 days of conception, while the second installment of Rs.2000 is given within 180 days or at least one maternity check-up. The third installment is Rs. 2000 after delivery and on completion of the first vaccination cycle of the child.

The benefit of this scheme is available to women who work on a daily wage or whose economic condition is very poor. The main objective of this scheme is to reduce the loss of labor during pregnancy. Getting this financial help gives pregnant women time to relax. The benefit of this scheme will not be available to women who are involved in any central or state government undertaking.

Under the Maternity Vandana Yojana 2021, the Central Government has made the application process online, i.e. the beneficiary can apply online himself. For this, first, the beneficiary has to login to www.Pmmvy-cas.nic.in and apply. The process is online, so can be easily done via the internet sitting at home.
